IntroductionI grew up in the south bronx in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country at the time. My father migrated from Ecuador and my mother is part of the Puerto Rican diaspora in New York. At 18 I joined the military and quickly regretted it. I became very politically and racially conscious and saw military for the brutal force it is most often toward people of color. A big part of my consciousness was inspired by my wife who I met in Japan with the Navy. We have been together since my time in Japan in 2003. We now have two kids. A beautiful 5 year old daughter and an adorable 3 year old boy (and i'm not bias at all). They are my motivation and my sustenance.
