Introduction Chris is currently completing a diploma in architecture at the University of Portsmouth and is a member of the Architecture, Culture & Identity Studio. He graduated in 2008 with a BA honours degree in architecture and spent his Part 1 at HLM Architects. Whilst at HLM he gained experience in the education and defence sectors, working particularly on a university business school proposal. Chris has also gained experience in private domestic and landscape schemes. He has a keen interest in landscape gardening and has completed projects in Maida Vale and around the Guildford area.
Interests Chris is investigating the cultural issue of the tourist in the city. In the modern tourist culture the tourist has rejected their senses becoming bias towards sight and the camera. The camera with its unlimited storage capacity along with a fast moving urban culture has lead to a belief that a multitude of photographs will inevitably capture the sense of place. Exploration through Psycho-Geography and its principles of horizontal city walking combined with vertical reading of history is a key aspect in understanding this cultural issue. Consideration will also be taken into our association with the senses and the ideas of a sixth sense, a culmination of all our senses and experiences.
