| Introduction | This is school year #4 that my husband and I have been spending in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Our adventure began in October 2016 after selling both our optometric practices in Michigan. We are contracted with Brien Holden Vision Institute (headquartered in Australia but working worldwide to eliminate vision impairment and avoidable blindness) to assist with program development and teaching at Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University. In November 2018 we saw our first students, 12 of them, graduate to be the first Vietnamese optometrists educated in their homeland. I began a blog in the beginning to keep track of the many new things we would experience, and although not as many things seem so new and different to us now, I still like to make myself reflect on chunks of time here and share our experiences in this different culture, in which we still are learning new things! This is also a way that helps me put a positive spin on my life on those days when I'm sorely missing my family and friends (and pets) back home! |
