Introduction Spellbound by the scale and power of the Himalayas, thrilled by new experiences, and savoring the intermittent company of India’s people – I am looking forward to tramping around the village of Sidhbari for the next 6 months. Allowing my life to be shaped by circumstances and the unknown, I will be spending my mornings attending prayer and yoga, days volunteering at the Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD), and nights and weekends exploring my new backyard. Observing my own spirit soaring, I pray that anyone willing from the Western world could experience this unfamiliar and distant place.
Interests I spent most of my childhood and adolescence in a small green vinyl home in Barrhaven. Barrhaven is a suburban area located in the southwest corner of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Presently, Barrhaven has a population of 68, 000. Like most suburbs north of the border, we have a Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, Loblaws, Dairy Queen, and countless Tim Hortons. At 17 years of age, I exited my comfort zone. In result of academic scholarships I was able to complete my high school diploma, Bachelors, and Masters in various locations in the United States as well as Paris. Now, at 24 years of age I’m ready to leave my comfort zone once again. On September 2nd I will encounter one of the world’s oldest and most advanced civilizations, a cow population over 400 million, and a human population over a billion – one third trying to stay alive below any humanly accepted poverty line. For two months, I will be visiting the Republic of India, also known as Bharat.
