| Introduction | After all the wandering, home is a farmstead built in 1852 by Sylvester and Clementine Bartlett, then sold to Samuel Staples in the 1860s. The New Englander with ell and huge two story barn stayed in the Staples family until 2005, when we bought it. First the swaying barn was saved, then bit by bit the interior restored. We are amazed at the seasonal show of color and wildlife in the surrounding 40 acres of field, really bog land hugging the Great Heath. We do not raise dairy cows or sheep or tend a large apple orchard as the Staples did. Instead, we grow organic vegetables and herbs. Sit on the porch. Savor the view, listen to the bobolinks burble and wonder at the dragonflies as they swarm. |
