| Introduction | My colonial and ‘legal name’ is Bahe Katenay but my original traditional name is Náábaahii Kéédíniihii. I am Díneh (Navajo) from the community/region of Big Mountain. The stories that I have put into video are stories of my old peoples. For nearly 45 years, I have volunteered for the elders of Big Mountain to be a translator and with years of writing, it has brought me to my (self-proclaim) independent ethnographer and historian. Now, many of my former elder relatives and leaders are gone due to age that were shortened by the inhumane and harsh policies of the U.S. law. I grew up on these pristine lands, herded sheep most of my life, my family farmed and raised other livestock also, and I have had many opportunities to partake of the ancient rituals. My volunteer work also led me to being a ‘freedom fighter’ and involved in various forms of resistance like formulating elder statements, attempts to deter federal activities and land-based organizing. In 1999, I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Minor in Geology. |
