Introduction	Dr. Gultekin Cakmakci received his BSc. degree (Chemical Engineering) from Ankara University, MA (Science Education) from the University of York, UK and PhD (Science Education) from the University of Leeds, UK. He is an Assistant Professor in Science Education at Hacettepe University and has been teaching courses on science education since 2005. His research interests focus on developing scientific literacy among students/teachers, and on the design, implementation and evaluation of science teaching. He is particularly keen to supervise research degrees in teaching about nature of science and scientific literacy. He is the leader for Hacettepe University in FP7 projects called “Science Teacher Education Advanced Methods (S-TEAM)” and Strategies for Assessment in Inquiry Learning in Science (SAILS) which are funded by European Commission (FP7 Project- Science in Society). He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of “Studies in Science Education” and executive board member of the Turkish "Science Education and Research Association (SERA)". I am a visiting researcher at Stanford University for a year (2011-2012)
