Introduction Farming background when young, joined the RN, submarine engineer.2 children, offshore oil mechanical tech. Retired and lived on a narrow boat for three years, had the most exciting time cruising the English and Welsh canals and rivers with Jan my wife. The decision was made to find a bigger boat as it is a bit cramped on a narrow boat. Jan being Dutch we started to look in The Netherlands. In 2004 we found the Belgian spits we live on today. Built 1936 and still being used to carry cargo by the people we bought it off. Its dimensions are 39mtrs long by 5 wide, just big enough to get in the locks in France.Rather bigger than our narrow boat 18mtrs long! The first winter was quite unpleasant as the toilet and shower was outside. We now have two toilets inside! Living area we have made in the style of an old fashioned English pub. Still plenty to do it keeps us busy. We called the old girl Velocette as I love old British motorcycles, my last being a Velocette Thruxton. I play the Scottish highland pipes just for fun. I dislike litter louts and those who treat the planet like a tip. Politeness for me is important, saying thank you costs nothing, A sense of humour is also a good thing.
