Introduction I am a designer weaver and love to use natural yarns in my work. I am fascinated by the long history of weaving and research ancient textiles and the techniques used to produce them. Using ancient Roman silk damask patterns, I have undertaken commissions to weave silk cloth for ecclesiastical textiles, such as chasubles and stoles. Developing ancient patterns brings the ingenuity of past weavers into the present and enables the beauty of their cloth to be appreciated. My particular interest is in the woven folk bands of Europe. I have spent many hours with curators in museums examining their wonderful collections. I run workshops and online courses about band weaving. My books are published by Blurb.com. My new book Weaving Patterned bands: How to create and design with 5, 7, and 9 Pattern Threads has been published by Schiffer. It has over 140 patterns with clear instructions for the beginner and enhanced design techniques for the more advance. There are two YouTube videos to accompany this book. https://www.youtube.com/user/durhamsilkweaver/ My Pinterest site is a great resource if you are interested in weaving and spinning.
