Introduction I am a pastel painter, a pianist, a former librarian, a Unitarian, and a person who believes in the joys of everyday life. I want to share that in my paintings, along with a few words about the pictures and why they excite me. I am also, perhaps first and foremost, a teacher and I love sharing my love of the medium of pastel. I hope this blog will inspire other pastel artists, while being enjoyed by my many non-artist friends from the library and other communities. Jean Hirons is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Maryland Pastel Society (serving as its president from 2007-2009). She is an adjunct professor at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD and gives workshops during the summer. She worked for 30 years as a librarian, the last 20 at the Library of Congress. She retired in 2003 to devote her energies to pastel.
