You've got to make contact with the alien leader. How will you tell when the conversation is finished?
Well, as with most forms of communication, the noises (or gestures, mind communication, etc.) would stop when the conversation was over. You can also tell that it is over if the alien you are talking to starts to walk (glide) away from you.
