| Introduction | Growing up, my favorite thing to do was to sit in my secret place: a moss-covered bank of a small stream deep in the woods where the sunlight dappled through the trees on the water and moss. Oh, how I loved the quiet, the smell of the water, trees, plants, leaves fallen... Little did I know that these would influence my art years later. The textures and colors had become part of me, emerging when I least expected. Those early solitary experiences were poetry to me and gave me repose. With the aid of remarkable teachers, my creative talent emerged. I went on to earn my BFA in sculpture from SUNY, College at Purchase. In my studio, I found respite, abeyance from whatever struggles were happening in my life. All the external negative stuff was suspended. I continue to experience this when I create, and it is a fascinating and wondrous adventure! The art I make now is not confined to sculpture; it is directed by my intended expression. Sometimes, though, it's whatever happens to be out on my work table. Often, this serendipity takes me in a completely different direction. My body and hands lead me because sometimes (OK, often) my brain just brings me down the wrong road! |
