Introduction I have taught language arts and sometimes history to eighth graders for eighteen years. Teaching is not just my job, but my passion as well. I hate getting up at 4:45 a.m. and spending long hours on student papers and projects, but other than that, I have the best job in the world! I fell in love with gardening accidentally. Although my love for growing things and the earth is embedded in my DNA (I am a descendent of Irish American farmers from Indiana), I didn't discover the intrinsic joy of gardening until about thirteen years ago. We had just moved into our present home, and an elderly neighbor brought me peony tubers he was dividing. I didn't have the heart to ditch them and so decided to scratch out a spot for them on the site of what had been the former home owners' dog house. Events snowballed from there when I inherited many of my stepmother's plants after she sold her home to marry my dad. The result of this plant serendipity is visible on the blog. Enjoy!
