Introduction	My names Alex, and I have been listening to Detroit hip hop since 2007. A variety of hip hop comes out of Detroit. You have artists like Eminem, who are signed to major labels and are widely successful on the radio, along with strong independent acts like J Dilla and Danny Brown who come from labels like Stones Throw and Fools Gold. When I was exposed to the J Dilla album Donuts by a good friend, I was immediately captivated by the sound. Considering it's music history, Detroit is a marriage of hip hop from New York, Motown soul, and techno (which came from Detroit) and I think all of this combined with hard lyricism that has it's roots in the battle rap scene are what makes Detroit hip hop significantly unique in comparison to hip hop from other parts of the country. Detroit hip hop lies in my heart above most of the daily music I listen to and gives me a reason to listen to hip hop.
