Introduction	The Highlands School Garden Committee was founded in 2008 to promote and support the creation of gardens and outdoor classrooms at Highlands School in Birmingham, Alabama. Goals for the garden spaces on campus include: Provide beautiful, inspiring place for our children to learn and play Provide opportunity to teach our children about outdoor habitats, chemical-free gardening and water conservation Provide opportunity to teach our children about nature’s life cycle and where food comes from Put in place sustainable, low-maintenance, self-perpetuating plantings Create special areas reserved for special curricula
