| Introduction | In my heart I’m a guava tree, young and pink and fresh, and a hummingbird, fleeting from flower to flower, drinking from all, settling on none. In my soul I’m a dolphin, flowing seamlessly under and over the waves. Deep inside, I’m a monolith, a piece of granite so immense it has no beginning and no end. Here on earth I’m a mother of two kids, a writer, an imaginator of fantastic scenes and heroes and heroines. I’m an owner of three silly dogs and seven chickens, a collector of lovely abutilons. I wash dishes and backpack through wild nature to places few people go. I fold the laundry and climb in Yosemite up vertical rocks. I make dinner and reach the peaks of mountains over 14,000 feet tall. I like to be made up of contradictions, extremes, and paradoxes. I like to be strange and different and the same in my strangeness and difference as everyone else. I love how we’re all connected, whether by virtual reality or genetics or soul.
