IntroductionI am a teacher and a learner. My favorite topic is "the art and science of critical and creative thinking". I try to infuse reflective thinking in all my courses for students who want and need to develop disciplined thinking. The values I wish to impart to my students are these: Intellectual Perseverance, Integrity, Courage, Humility, Autonomy, Empathy, Fair-mindedness, and Faith in their ability to reason - to think things through, for a happier life and for the benefit of society as a whole.
InterestsLearning and Teaching, Creative and Critical Thinking, Philosophy, the mystical poets of Spain, painting, gardening, guitar and piano music, Distance Education, and of course my pets kitties. Cosmology and the origins of the universe. Currently researching "string theory" and cabalistic thinking. Pretty deep stuff, but it helps me put my life in perspective.
Favorite moviesAll Star Trek movies with Capital Picard, one of my mentors of true leadership. I love musicals such as Les, Miserables, Man of La Mancha, Mama Mia, Sound of Music, The Music Man, Westside Story, and most "oldies". Recently I've enjoyed on the stage "The Jersey Boys" and "Jeklyll and Hide. " I find most Hollywood movies these days lacking in depth, but I like to watch "thrillers" such as "Clear and Present Danger," and other CIA and spy movies, after all when I was a child I wanted to be a detective!
Favorite musicClassical, folk, guitar, piano, Joan Baez, David Lanz, Andres Segovia, Neil Diamond, Abba, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, and too many others to mention. In the modern stage, I like k.d. lang, Enya, Loreena McKennit, and many other female vocalists.
Favorite booksToo numerous to mention but here's one for starters: THE DOT by Peter H. Reynolds - ("Just make a mark and see where it takes you.") If you see my library, you'll see that my reading interests are eclectic: from Jean Houston's work to Paul Davies. From St. John of the Cross to Brian Greene. ETC.
