| Introduction | I’m not a professional historian, but I love American history. As a small boy, my interest in history was peaked by growing up in Princeton, New Jersey and visiting many of the places where Revolutionary War history happened – from where Washington crossed the ice-packed Delaware River on a bitterly cold Christmas morning in 1776, to the battlefield at Princeton, which was one of the great turning points in the Revolutionary War. When I was 8 years old, I memorized all the presidents in order (reciting their names in ten seconds!). Over the years, I’ve read a lot about the early days of our nation’s founding and about our presidents. I’m currently writing a book about the presidents. From 1979 until my retirement in February 2010, I was a contracting manager for local and state governments in Seattle, Washington. I am now operating a consulting business, Michael E. Purdy Associates (www.mpurdy.com). I have a bachelor's degree in business and public administration and an MBA, both from the University of Puget Sound, and a master of divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. |
