IntroductionI am a printmaker, specializing in mezzotints and linoleum. Born Janet Best Norton, in North Hornell, New York, I spent my formative years in Beaumont, Texas. I received my BFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1982, and have also studied printmaking at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. I have lived, worked, and exhibited in many places, from Texas to Nevada, Antigua, West Indies, Puerto Rico, London, Mississippi, and Louisiana. I spent three years in Moscow, Russia, which culminated in my one-woman exhibition at Studio Nivinskovo. While in Bangor, Maine, I was the artist partner in the Great Cranberry Island Portrait Project (along with writer Rebecca Buyers-Basso). My etched portraits of Cranberry Islanders are part of the Great Cranberry Island permanent collection. Now living in Houston, Texas, I continue on my artistic path as a member of PrintMatters Houston, Women Printmakers of Austin, and the International Mezzotint Society.
