Introduction My name is John, and I've been a wanderer for the majority of this experience that I call life. I spent the first seventeen years of my existence living here and there, trapped within the sheltered confines of U.S. military reservations. Despite the limitations imposed by my captivity, I managed to escape the concertina wire and listen to the voices of cultures much different than my own. Their vision became my own over the course of time, altering my perspective and laying the foundation of a life that wouldn't remain in one place for very long. As I emerged into the confusing realm of adulthood, I realized that I was a man with no country and no culture, and this salient reality made me different from the sea of humanity I found myself lost in. During the course of my childhood travels I had traded certainty for uncertainty, stability for mobility, and a single voice for many tongues. It took decades of meandering to learn what my life had prepared me for - doing anthropology - and that I wasn't a man without a country, but a child of the entire world. .
