| Introduction | We first came to China in February of 2008 as a teacher at a University in the Northeastern part of China. We are now going on our second semester here. Mark is teaching all movie classes: three sophomore English major classes and three freshmen English major classes. They meet once a week to discuss cultural aspects and well as language involved in the movies and then they all come together once a week to watch a movie. Carrie has a lot lighter load of only three classes. She teaches sophomore English majors Oral English. We also spend about two hours a week tutoring a high school senior who is looking to study in the states next year. The entire group of foreign English teachers holds a weekly English corner available for all students who are interested in practicing English. We also have weekly groups that meet, where we pick a book to read and discuss the vocabulary and culture of the book. This gives the students a chance to practice reading and speaking English. Each month we also put on a large group event, such as: open mic night, spelling bee, holiday parties, plays, field days, etc. |
