| Introduction | 20 YEAR CAREER IN THE MARKET: Jim seized the opportunity to enter institutional sales and marketing soon after he took his first job selling consumer investment products. This segue him into joining World Savings & Loan, where he jumped from the “sell” side of the business to the “buy” side, as member of their trading desk. As Jim climbed the ladder within the industry, his career trajectory continued to pick up steam. It wasn’t long before he accepted the position of Vice President of Asset Liability Management with Great Western Bank, Treasury, where he served as a Senior Hedging Specialist and pipeline and mortgage trader. He spearheaded new product development, traded with more than 15 Wall Street firms and managed a liquidity portfolio in excess of $7B. He helped originate over $5B of new products, including co-creating the LAMA mortgage index, prior to the acquisition of Great Western Bank by Washington Mutual. In 1999, he joined CUNA Mutual Mortgage Corporation as Assistant Vice President, Secondary Marketing, Risk Control Management; and moved on to the position of Vice President, Secondary Marketing for Lexington Lending in 2006. |
| Interests | FINANCIAL SERVICES EXPERTISE MEETS SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS: Among the notable accomplishments in Jim’s “heavy hitting” career history are programs he designed to meet the marketplace demands for diverse mortgages for minorities such as the 2005 “Latino Lending Initiative” (LLI) and its “No Loan Left Behind” companion, which he designed and presented while working with CUNA. Freddie Mac described the LLI as “the most well-designed and forward thinking project of its kind in the entire industry.” His financial observations have been featured within electronic media including the LA Times, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and papers in Europe. His international consulting experience includes the Agency for International Development, Central American Mission, and El Salvador. Known as an efficiency expert, he is constantly active in the nonprofit arena, using his ability to “retool” processes and resources, making them easier and more effective. Jim sees new dimensions emerging in banking, lending, underwriting, and trading. His experience in two very different worlds strengthens his resolve to utilize his knowledge and talents to potentially create new pathways for the financial industry to reach out to diverse customers and cultures. Jim is currently working for the 2008 presidential election, as he pursues a Certificate in Non-Profit Fundraising and Development from UCLA. He has also served as a chaplain with the Martin Luther King Hospital in Los Angeles. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania; and a Certificate in International Studies from the School For International Living in Copenhagen, Denmark |
