| Introduction | I grew up in Maine, and learned carpentry as a teenager. I came to Vermont to earn a B.S. in Geology from UVM. I worked as a geologist in Alaska, then returned to Vermont and built houses before finding a job at the Museum in 2010. I am lucky enough to have a job where I get paid to do things I like to do: see how old buildings were put together, learn new skills and alternative building methods, and be creative. I believe good carpentry strikes a balance between science and art: a good carpenter has to understand how and why a building functions (or fails), and good carpentry must also look nice. Working at the Museum is the perfect opportunity to grow in these regards. It's also nice to be able to share with others what I am learning and doing here. |
