Introduction My career encompassed both the nonprofit and corporate worlds. I live in a two-hundred year old farm house in Carmel, NY with my husband Joseph Bellontine, a retired guidance counselor and teacher. I am a sister, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and friend. I lived a difficult, but full and rewarding life. They tell me my story is well-worth the telling. Initially, I began my memoir in order to make peace with my past and gain clarity about my life. Over time, the memoir evolved into something even more meaningful. It became my gift to my children and grandchildren, a way of explaining who I was and why. It’s a kind of map of my life, a map to a world completely foreign to them. Above all, it’s a testament to the value of tenacity, humor, and faith when dealing with the most difficult exigencies of life. My grandchildren are young. It hasn’t yet occurred to them to ask about the intricacies of my family tree. When the time comes, my memoir will provide answers and insight. In addition, it may serve to inspire young people in difficult family situations and offer the gift of hope to those in despair.
