| Introduction | I am a classic baby boomer - in my late fifties, a professional knowledge worker employed by a large company, and living in the south of England. I'm average weight and height and in reasonable health. I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C by chance in June 2005. Following a biopsy I was diagnosed with genotype 1a with a hepatitis activity score of 3/18 and a fibrosis score 1/6. With a viral load of 230,000 copies/ml, I am mildly infected but still decided on taking the treatment (pegylated interferon injections and ribavirin tablets) despite the success rate for genotype 1 being of the order 40%-50%. I do not know the cause. |
