Introduction	SemiObama is an innovative participatory Weblog that offers semiotic readings of the new visual culture surrounding Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. SemiObama is not interested in reading or interpreting Senator Obama as a person or a candiate; rather this project concerns itself with decoding the diversity of visual texts produced by the Obama campaign, Obama supporters, and opponents of Senator Obama. We will look at the ways the senator is portrayed through visual representation, and we will unpack the various cultural, religious, national, and political icons and symbols used to evoke meaning and emotional reaction. We will also write about the act of writing–decode the process of decoding–reading our own readings as a means of transparency and fuller decoding.
