| Introduction | As an artist and educator I try to see my surroundings in a new way. The less obvious parts of our world are what interest me the most. Nature is most often my inspiration and drives me to create art. Every day is an adventure to find new ways of looking at life. My experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco have taught me to take in the world in new ways. My art is a reflection of my personal experiences, my hopes, my dreams and my desire to express ideas that can not be expressed in words. The simplest change in a cloud or the color of a leaf can convey an entirely different mood or meaning to a composition I am working on. Drawing and painting are the soul of all of my art work. I started as a child by drawing on every surface and explored painting as a natural progression from drawing. Pottery is literally what centers me. I think about throwing and designing pieces often. Clay is a universal medium and it is very grounding. Digital photography has become another language for me. It allows me to capture moments in time and express it with bright colors and intensity. Art is my solace and my profession. Art is how I define myself as an individual. |
