| Introduction | I am a journalist at a weekly newspaper in Northeast Georgia. I am also getting my masters degree in New Media Journalism through Full Sail University. Part of my masters program is publishing a blog each week. I've chosen to blog about education issues facing my community, my state and the nation. Education is something I'm passionate about, and my job as a reporter has only expanded that interest and knowledge. Covering local and state education has allowed me to interact with all ages of students while still allowing me to dig deeper into the real issues underneath the surface. The transition from the No Child Left Behind Act during the Bush administration to President Obama's Race to the Top approach is affecting students, teachers, parents, administrators, communities and legislation every day. Are the changes positive? Is the current funding formula in the best interest of students or government? Where is the wasteful spending? Are the right people going into teaching? Are teachers paid enough, too much? These are issues I look forward to addressing weekly on this blog. |
