About me

LocationUnited States
IntroductionI am a writer from South Africa based in New York. I have written for numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Conde Nast Traveler, and Outside. I have written several books, including "Mongo, Adventures in Trash," and "Apartheid in my Rucksack", which was about traveling around Africa as a white African. As a freelancer I try to choose the stories I write about -- that is, I try to choose stories I want to write about -- but it doesn't always work that way. I have written many stories on spec, which means the magazine or newspaper doesn't ask for them. You just throw the piece at them, and mostly they throw it back at you. I have a particular fondness for writing humor on spec, but it usually doesn't find a home. You can read more of these pieces in the Humor on Spec posts. And if you really want more of my writing, you can check out www.tedbotha.com. Read on!
