Introduction Al's art background includes a few years at the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, MA. He majored in anthropology at Miami-Dade College and later taught photography there. He spent several years working for various publications in the Miami area. He used his contacts that he made while working for those publications to pick up a variety of long term clients, including Barry University, the City of North Miami, the Jamaican Tourist Development Board, and Congressman William Lehman. Al's daughter Elena is an attorney in Atlanta and his son Jonathan is working on his doctorate at Harvard. Jonathan and his wife Deborah recently made Al a grandfather with the birth of their daughter Gabriella. These days he tells people that he's semi-retired, but he's really busier than ever working on his environmental self-portrait series and a couple of book projects about different aspects of his life and adventures as a photographer, as well as going through his forty-five years worth of carefully cataloged files of negatives, contact sheets, and color slides. He started this blog as a way of organizing his photographs and his memories.
Interests Al's interests range from light tackle fishing to politics. He's skilled in black & white traditional darkroom techniques and equally at home with a 4x5 commercial view camera as he is with his favorite 35mm Leicas. It's obvious that he has a unique vision of the world when he works with ultra wide angle lenses.
