Introduction Cecile Pineda is the author of six published novels. Face, Frieze, The Love Queen of the Amazon (a satire of magic realism); Fishlight, the memoir of an imagined childhood, Bardo99 in which the 20th Century undergoes a bardo state; and Redoubt, a meditation on gender. Devil's Tango: How I Learned the Fukushima Step by Step exposes the harms of the nuclear industry in its weapons- and energy making cycles; Apology to a Whale: Words to Mend a World draws on archeology, linguistics, and the communication of plants, animals, and indigenous people to reflect on the role of language in determining the present world's power alignments.
