| Introduction | Learning to let go of Mom--this is how my blog began. It's our journey--hers and mine--to help Mom travel from this life to another. Mom had a major stroke to the right side of her brain on the 30th of August. One of the blood vessels in her brain exploded, producing a large pool of blood that the brain tissue could not absorb. Mom has what is called amyloid angiopathy, a thinning of the body's arteries and blood vessels. At any time she could have another stoke, the size of which could be large or small or somewhere in-between. One of these bleeds will be the one that kills her. Mom also suffers from mid-stage Alzheimer's. Her brain's been shutting down for years, one cell at a time. With both the stoke and Mom's Alzheimer's, her body has been reduced to barely-functioning. There's still a thinking brain inside my mom, but the words can't get out and the body can't move to her commands. This is grief, I know--Mom's and mine. |
