| Introduction | I'm a big advocate of volunteering. The kind of volunteering you do because you want not because you have to. Volunteering has allowed me to follow my interests and my passions in my own time. I started volunteering with my local Progress Association in 1995 as a way of making a difference within my community. This experience has provided me with the understanding of how 'political' processes work. A group of people can make a difference. I also volunteered as a Coordinator of CSIRO’s Double Helix club, this experience gave me the opportunity to go on and develop my own business Springboard Science, where I travel about the region doing hands-on science shows in child care centres and vacation care. I'm also a Landcarer and have learnt about how to look after our precious bushland resources, this experience landed me a job in Council supporting other Landcarers in Lake Macquarie. |
