Introduction I am a performer interested in improvisation, reed instruments and electronics. My musical interests are very diverse and include Asian and Oriental music together with western classical and rock. I play Bass Clarinet, Saxophones, Shenai (north Indian oboe) and found/created instruments such as drainpipe didgeridoo, bottles of water, etc. My primary influences are drawn from improvised music in all its forms, particularly the jazz of Albert Ayler and Eric Dolphy and the free forms of groups AMM and the Evan Parker Electro-acoustic Ensemble. With Christopher Hobbs as my superviser, I am working towards a PhD at Coventry University. My subject area is free improvisation, particularly communication and processes used by improvising musicians. I perform with Transgression which combines acoustic instruments with delays/loops, electronic sounds and live sampling. A member of the Birmingham Improvisers Orchestra, I particularly value collaborating with artists from other disciplines such as film/video and dance.
