| Introduction | 'Serendipity’ is the name of a piece of writing created by my mother, telling the story of her journey from a dark place to the realisation of her dreams. ‘Serendipity,’ along with many diaries, remained a secret until my mother’s death by suicide in November 2010. The discovery of Mum’s memoir and diaries and the way she chose to leave us has given me much to reflect on – cultural and social norms, sexuality, relationships and marriage, motherhood and mental health. |
