| Introduction | Right now I'm participating in "The Berth Spot", as one of 20 artists selected to create public art in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. For my part I'm commuting at 8:30AM and 5PM on work days on stilts in a business suit and brief case. I'm currently working as a circus performer and instructor, so this project is an interesting exersize exploring the relationship between "work" and "art". As I become more "professional", I find I spend more time corresponding via email, self-promoting and less time actually making art. This all happens out of my home, making it difficult to separate art from work from home life on a good or bad day. This "performance art" stilt walk seems to be addressing a question I've heard a lot during my "Big Commute": "Are you working right now?" This question, funny enough, comes up in my "regular job" as well. |
