| Introduction | Cine Qua Non Lab began informally to provide a space for filmmakers to envision and develop their work, and to bring Mexican and international filmmakers together to exchange ideas, share perspectives, and find new opportunities for collaboration. A handful of individuals have found their way to this oasis to edit their film, write the script that's due for deadline, or simply to come and think about their project. They have included: Agustin Tapia & Ana Soler (directors) for Los Días Sin Joyce; Ricardo Benet (writer) for Noticias Lejanas, shown worldwide, including at Tribeca and Guadalajara; Lourdes Villagomez (animator) for various animation projects; Roberto Hurtado (music composer) for Noticias Lejanas and Un Bel Morir; and Elena Pardo (editor) for Lila Downes' videos. Last year, we received screenwriters from all over the world, including Mexico, the U.S., Columbia, Spain, Iran, India, and the U.K. At least half of these scripts are now either in the pre-production or production stage of making their films. CQNL supports independent film that has a global and humanistic sensibility. |
