| Introduction | I am a PhD student in SLS, having transferred from PhD program in Composition & Rhetoric in English. I have ten-year teaching experience at secondary school and college levels in Japan. Through this experience, I became interested in the process in which students learn to write in a foreign language. I was particularly impressed by the hypothesis that English writing skills might not be dependent on English proficiency levels alone, but on various factors such as L1 writing skills, previous writing experience, genre knowledge, content knowledge, etc. Investigating what constitutes students' L2 writing skills, therefore, is a central theme of my research. I myself like writing, including academic papers, novels, and blog. My favorite place for writing is Starbucks. I do a lot of writing at Starbucks in Waikiki:-) |
