| Introduction | Following the sages' dictum of "don't quit your day job" (Yaffeh Torah im Derech Eretz), Mordechai works as a flight nurse and board-certified flight paramedic. He served as an infantry soldier and medic in the IDF. Mordechai was educated in some of Israel's best known religious zionist institutions, including Machon Meir, Yeshivat Mercaz Harav Kook, and the Shaal program of Yeshivat Shaalvim. He holds a Master Teacher certificate from Shaalvim Teachers College, a BSc. in Health Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He is a founding member of Atalaya Search and Rescue of Santa Fe (www.atalayasar.org). Rabbi Scher is married to Dr. Shulamit Yaarah (aka Sandra) Scher. Their children are all grown and out of the house. Visitors to the Scher home are likely to be greeted by one of their dogs or cats. The hens, fish, and bees keep largely to themselves. |
