| Introduction | Peter Alexander Meyers is an American political theorist, Professor of American Studies at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris III, and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Public Knowledge, New York University, where he is also Director of the Working Group on Rhetoric and Public Knowledge. He recently published a theory of constitutional powers in the first volume of a three-volume study of Democracy in America After 9/11 entitled Civic War and the Corruption of the Citizen (U. Chicago Press). His book on Rousseau, the origins of sociology, and the foundations of political theory --- Abandoned to Ourselves --- will be published later this year by Yale University Press. Meyers is most recently recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for a project in German political writing of the XXth century. |
