| Introduction | I am a young mother (34) of three children ages 5, 3, and 1. I have lived with the knowledge that I was BRCA1 positive long before the Angelina Jolie effect. About a year after my husband and I were first married I got tested at the urging of my father and sister who are both cancer survivors and carriers of BRCA1. At the time I was only 26. I don't know anyone personally with my specific set of circumstances. I hope that this blog provides a sense of community and support for other young mothers or family/friends trying to understand what this is like for someone like me. You'll notice that I sometimes take a humorous approach in my writing. This is not to make light of the situation but to simply stay away from the doom and gloom mentality. If I don't laugh a bit, I cry. Really it is a coping mechanism to keep me away from anxiety and look for the hope to cope. I truly wish you peace and love if you find yourself in this position or someone dear to you is facing a myriad of decisions. This blog is a walk through my journey as I look back at the past and how I am processing today's choices that impact my future. Blessings to you as you read. |
