| Introduction | I am a British woman living in South Sudan. In 2013 I came to Nimule in South Sudan as a volunteer teacher at a local orphanage. In 2015 I co-founded a school for the most marginalised children in Nimule, those from families with HIV, disabilities and orphans. My partners were two local organisations. Since 2018 I have been assisting several deaf children to go to Uganda for schooling as there are no facilities available for them locally. From 2023 I also started to assist two blind children. In 2024 due to circumstances described in the blog, I moved the primary school to a new site, with a change of name to Liberty Nursery and Primary School. I fundraise through a charity called Opportunity through Education for funds for the school and also for sponsorship for the deaf and blind children. In 2019 the Catholic Diocese of Torit invited me to become a lay missionary under their auspices. I use this blog to create interest in the lives of the children I am trying to help and to create awareness of my work. My future plan is to start a hearing impairment unit in Nimule, which will be the first of its kind in the whole of South Sudan. |
