Introduction	Having passed a terrifying milestone birthday, seeing nothing before me but a slow fade to black, I met a young gentleman in London whose words completely transformed my self-image. He said he admired me and my husband for having been together for more than twenty years. He wanted to know the secrets of keeping a relationship going. And he said he had been in want of someone to look up to in his life, someone like me! Here was a young man whose youth I could only envy, yet he valued all the things I hated about my elder status. Suddenly my attitude flipped 180 degrees. I started to consider my “mileage” as priceless wisdom and experience. I needed to embrace my image as an accomplished elder for this young man who had a palpable need for me simply to exist. This is how I came here, to be with you.
