| Introduction | I am starting my sixth year teaching. The first five years, I taught fourth grade, and now I'm teaching fifth grade. Growing up, I hated reading and I was not a proficient reader. I remember sitting in parent/teacher conferences and hearing the teacher describe my struggles, challenges, and difficulties as a reader. I remember sitting with my Mom, reading and just hating it! Then one day, one week, one month, one year (who knows when) I became excited about reading. Suddenly, things were making sense to me and I loved reading. As a teacher, I use my experiences as a struggling reader to guide students to become excited readers. Hopefully, they will become enlightened readers and enjoy the wonderful world of words! |
