Introduction	I was raised largely with the idea of self-sufficiency, and even though I am now an urban dweller, I still maintain the self-sufficient way of life as much as possible, doing as much as I can of my own baking (including bread), preserving (including sauerkraut, kimchee, and other fermented vegetables), and cooking most everything from scratch. I live in New Zealand, in a small connected flat with only a small front yard which I have turned into a lush permaculture fruit and veggie garden, and share my space with a small dog, two cats, two turtles, and a lot of fish.
