| Introduction | “The Way We Are” is a title I actually borrowed from a name of a movie in Hong Kong (which I have never seen, but would like to see). I find it very “appropriate” and a rather safe name as a title of my blog because I envisioned my blog to be about observation and opinion of the society and culture I live in. As in all societies, this one in Hong Kong is complicated (even thought it might be much simpler than a more multi-ethnic society) and it’s hard to comprehend it. Even though I might attempt to understand it, I know that the chance is slim and I would never be able to offer a comprehensive view of the whole picture. I think that is part of my philosophy (or someone else’s that I have adopted unknowingly), that as smart as we are (or can be) with all the knowledge and wisdom that are passed down to us from the past, it is still a daunting task to try and understand the world as it is. Therefore, we just have to accept the fact that there are things that we can’t and will not understand. It is just the way it is, and as part of this society, this is the way we are. |
