| Introduction | DMSMCA has developed and manages three community gardens in our neighbourhood. We have over 70 families participating. Key components of our gardening program include: mentorship; gardening and food preservation workshops; kids gardening; and an inner-city garden tour. Orioles Community Garden was established in 2009 and has over 40 raised beds, a native plant butterfly garden, and composting. Lipton Community Garden is located in a pocket park that had been empty for a number of years. A group of residents unhappy with the empty lot approached to community association to put a garden in the space in 2010. It now has 11 raised beds. Winnipeg Central Mosque Community Garden began in 2011 as a joint project between the mosque and community association. It is presently contains 11 raised beds and three decorative planter beds. The garden is located in the parking lot of the mosque. The mosque is committed to making this garden a space for celebration. |
