| Introduction | My name is Liz, I'm 26 years old, and I live in New York. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in May 2012, when I was 25. Since then I've gone through periods of reduced symptoms, but never achieved a true remission. Because of the severity of my disease and my response to all the treatments I've tried, I chose surgery.
