| Introduction | Munda was my uncle; he married my father's sister Shauna. He and I grew up in Johnsonburg, PA, just like nearly all of my ten Shaffer aunts and uncles and seventeen Shaffer cousins. It is a close-knit family and community. Munda's dad was the custodian at my elementary school, and Munda's sister taught my brother Hank in school. I've lived outside of Johnsonburg for many, many years, now, but I find that my thoughts return there when I run. I am currently training for four marathons and a fifty-mile race this fall, and so I run a lot! I am dedicating my running to my Uncle Munda, whose life and struggle with cancer inspires me. With this blog, I'm also hoping to raise money to help with Munda's medical expenses and other needs. |
