| Introduction | Hi, Welcome to my blog. You won’t find Ballinloughane listed on any map of Co. Sligo but – trust me – it really does exist. It is unlikely ever to host the Olympics or to achieve European or World Heritage Status - although, perhaps, that is something to which nearby Lough Gara and its crannogs should aspire. Ballinloughane, which is pronounced Ballinahaun, means the ‘place or homestead of the small lake’. Much of my youth was spent exploring Lough Gara and other vestiges of a time and a way of life long gone. The past has shaped the present as it too will shape the future. I look forward to re-tracing some of the steps of my formative years and viewing those times of yore through the eyes of the twenty-first century. In a sense, Ballinloughane is everywhere and nowhere. It is a tiny spot on a map - a lens through which I hope to view Ireland's past and beyond. I hope you enjoy my blog. |
